Let's face it, girls -- we're fond of pretty hands. Why else would we spend hundreds of dollars each year to make them so darn attractive? How many times have you walked into your salon with hands that looked like you'd been picking corn in Kansas for a month, only to walk out with "movie star" hands? It's that total transformation that makes a good manicure so worthwhile. One of the nail polish trends we noticed during Fashion Week was matching polish color with makeup. For example, if you're wearing bright green eyeliner, paint those nails a matching shade of green. Of course, if you're not one to follow trends, we have a few ideas that may appeal to your particular personality:
- Traditional
You're all about a manicure that takes you from the workplace to a night out with friends. You don't necessarily want total strangers to notice your hands, but when they do, you want them to be impressed. You're probably happy with a French manicure -- clean, concise, and no fuss. If you do opt for color, it's likely to be a shade of mauve that magically seems to work with whatever you're wearing, or a powerhouse red that tells the world you're boss.
- Romantic
It's the subtle things in life that spell romance: the brush of your arm, slight dip of your chin, and practically diaphanous nail color. Sheer pink, gossamer peach, or a filmy lilac will do the trick. Keep it light and easy while emphasizing your femininity.
- Fun
If you're the girl everyone waits for to get the party started, you're not afraid to break the rules. Paint every nail a different bright color, choose an outrageous shade of orange, or opt for one color for the right hand and another for the left. Seriously, who made the rules in the first place?
- Athletic
Are you all about your favorite team? Why not do them a prop by painting your nails in their colors? While you're at it, ask our manicurist to add the team logo to one or more nails. You know how much one sports enthusiast appreciates another, don't you?
- Flirty
There are some colors that are all about being noticed: flaming red, shocking pink, shimmery silver. These are the shades for you. You're telling the world that you're here and ready for some fun.
- Funky
If you're the babe who sported combat-style boots before anyone else even thought of trying them on, you're a bit of a trendsetter. For you, we recommend daring colors like black, olive green and midnight blue. While you may not look like someone who'll be chosen to model for "Redbook" anytime soon, you are the woman others look to in order to learn what's cutting-edge.
- Whimsical
Isn't it wonderful that some people always seem to have their head in the clouds? To those girls we say, "Dream on!" It's the dreamers of this world that make it a more interesting place. Ask our manicurist to paint a full daisy on one finger, then a daisy missing a petal on the next. Repeat until each of your fingers tell the story of, "he loves me; he loves me not."
